CoQ10

Hrm...yeah. I start up good for a couple posts about my cat (Relic's doing great, by the way) and then Life sucks for awhile and I either 1) don't have anything of interest to write about or 2) don't have the time/energy to write about what does happen...normally because whatever did happen was the cause of said lack of time/energy.

In the past two weeks, I haven't gone a single day where I wasn't in dire need of a nap. I know, for someone like me, that's like a death sentence. I hate sleeping. But yesterday something changed. I'm not so naive as to chalk it up all on one solution, but I do want to mention the one thing that was a change from the previous slump. I dropped by GNC a couple days back, as the lack of energy was seriously disturbing me. I take a multi-vitamin, but I was thinking maybe I could boost my energy stores a little with some self-medication (of the positive kind). I'd been doing some research into it all, and I decided I'd give this supplement, CoQ10, a try. I know; it sounds like a mad-chemist's plot to kill humanity. But basically it aids in the ability for your cells to burn oxygen and also helps open up your arteries. So, why not give it a try. And while I won't deduce a causal relation to the recent burst in productivity at this point, I will keep you updated as to whether I think the stuff works.

But yeah, the moral of the story is that I've got no story. Although there's no over-arching theme to my life lately, I can say I put in a leave-of-absence at Ruby's for the next couple months, my classes are all progress well, I haven't yet begun to work on the PhD applications, my apartment is actually looking like a home with the addition of a dining-room
table and a TV bigger than a bread-box (though, of course, I still don't even have rabbit ears), and Relic is the perfect roommate. As far as everything else goes, there's not much of it. So I'll leave at that, fill a little of the curiosity of my friends, and hopefully write again soon.

Namaste'.

Relic

Thanks to those who left me comments. I did end up getting 'Viking', or as I like to call him, 'Relic'. 'Viking' just doesn't roll of the tongue, you know? Plus, he's a bit too wise for it, so I figured 'Relic' suited him better. He spent the first three hours chillin' under my bed, but when he decided to come out, he wasn't shy at all about exploring or jumping up on my lap for awhile. A good cat. Anyways, I won't make this a long post, as it's already been a long day, but I thought I'd post a couple pictures:

Tails

Certain flaws are necessary for the whole.
It would seem strange if old friends lacked certain quirks.

What do you think? Should I get a cat? I went to the humane society up here in DeKalb. It's actually a really nice place. They've got a few separate rooms where the cats are free to roam free. In one of the rooms was a cat named Viking, who was 2 years old. He's got some tiger striping, with a very healthy coat on him. He also looks like he wasn't neutered right away, as he's got the broad head and is a very big cat. Not fat, just very thick. I really liked him because 1) he's old enough to have mellowed out some and 2) he was perfectly happy sitting on my lap and kept burrowing his head under my arm to get me to keep petting him yet was independent enough to go do his own thing when I put him down. That works well, as I really can't handle a 24/7 lap cat while writing papers and all, but I would still like a bit of interaction if I'm going to make the investment that comes with owning a cat. But, the question that I really do want a response to, "should I get a cat?", is actually a tri-part question. I don't know too much about cats, as the only cat my family ever had was the most independent, self-sufficient cat possible. So, there are two other cats I'm looking at, both kittens. The boy, Brian, I didn't actually spend much time with (the kittens aren't kept in the playrooms, but in cages you have to get one of the employees to open). The girl, Spring, was really playful. Even though I didn't get a chance to take her out of the cage, she kept sticking her paws through and just resting them on my stomach. No claws out or anything, just kinda kneading my stomach as I petted her. So, the second part of the question is whether I should get a younger cat or the older cat; I'm gone for at least a 5 hour stretch most days, so would a kitten completely demolish my house? And, finally, does anyone know if/what is the difference between having a boy or girl cat? I figure once they're fixed, they're probably pretty similar temperaments, right? Anyways, leave a comment and let me know if you happen across this site today or tomorrow. I'll be going back over to Tails after work today to visit with them again and putting a hold on the cat I like till I can go back the next day to get him/her after I've got all the "supplies".

My To-Do List

Thanks go out to everyone (and there were quite a few of you) who kept on my case about updating my divergent world. There were some valid issues keeping me from doing such, but mainly it was an overflow of tedious, invalid issues that kept me away. And I'm not saying those are done now, but at least they're a bit more manageable.

So what's new? Classes started last week, and they look to be a pretty sweet compilation. I'm taking Metaphysics, Contextualism, and Psychology of Language (naturally, in the Psych department, not Philosophy). I might also be auditing Biopsych, but considering it'd be too much work and I already know the information anyways, I'm beginning to think there's no reason to even audit it. I would take it for a grade, but if I did I'd be done with my degree this semester. Sure, that sounds good on paper, to have an entire semester to not do anything, but now that I'm getting free tuition and a sufficient stipend, might as well milk it one more semester. So, I'll probably end up dropping that course, leaving me with just 9 credits this semester.

It's not that much freetime, though. I'm also TAing for a couple courses that meet MWF at 8am and 9am. Add to that the office hours and grading, and it takes up a little time, too. And although I can't formally mention it (due to a stipulation for the TA job), I'm still holding down a couple shifts doing that thing at that place with the stuff. But I guess the main drain on time this semester is going to be the applications for PhD programs. Maybe in a day or two I'll put up a list of where I'll be applying. And shortly after that, I'll be contacting those near and dear to me who live close to those schools, begging for a spot on the couch some random weekend. But that's going to be quite involved, including a new GRE, a personal statement my old hard-drive ate, getting packets together for my letter writers, actually filling out the applications, and lots and lots of money. So it'll be a busy semester.

Well, I hate to do just random life updates, as I try to keep this as far away from being a journal as possible, but I figure it'll do well enough to get me back into updating my world. So, without further ado...
